Vineyard Notes:

For the 2011 Novus, we once again blended our estate Sangiovese with Syrah from the neighboring Dove Pond Vineyard. Both sites share the same distinctive calcareous shale and sandstone soils. Irrigation is limited and the long growing season boasts warm, sunny days and cool nights. The resulting fruit is of extremely high quality, with low yields and concentrated flavors.

Winemaker Notes:

Yields were so light in 2011 that we were unsure if we even had enough fruit to produce the Novus Ordo blend this year. Somehow, we found a way and we are very glad we did – albeit in a very limited quantity. The quality of both varietals was superb and the resulting blend exceeded even our high expectations. Equal parts smooth and explosive, this wine is ready to drink now but we predict it will improve even more with age – assuming you have the self-control to wait…
